About the position

This position is a full-time position, typically 40+ hours per week from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm each weekday, working with Washington Connections Academy from your home office in either Washington, Oregon, or Idaho. Certified Teachers will "virtually" manage instructional programs. Through use of the telephone, Internet and various curriculum tools they will consult regularly with learning coaches and students to ensure that each child successfully completes their instructional program.

Responsibilities

  • Hosting a homeroom of students, acting as a role model and mentor for them throughout the school year.
  • Hosting weekly homeroom LiveLessons.
  • Supporting students and families through key school year cycle tasks, including Welcome Calls, Intent to Return, and monthly WSLP Progress Checks.
  • Encouraging students to be engaged in their lessons and LiveLessons.
  • Advising students and families related to academics, academic skill building, and graduation.
  • Keeping abreast of all high school graduation requirements, including special requirements as related to Graduation Pathways, and communicating this information to the Manager of Counseling.
  • Assisting students and parents with the secondary school course selection process according to specific state credit and graduation requirements and student needs and interests.
  • Completing transcript evaluations for incoming students, completing new student placements, and the entry of credits into the online transcript system.
  • Implementing programs for academic, social/emotional, and college and career support for students.
  • Helping coordinate and communicate about various programs such as Runnings Start Program, Career Technology Education (CTE) pathway program, and Credit Recovery.
  • Participating in the development of crisis prevention and management plans for the school and serving as a key member of the Student Support Team (SST).
  • Coordinating a team of middle and high school teachers to help identify students who are "at risk" or "in crisis"; acting as the main point of contact for these students and families.
  • Implementing efforts to secure complete and accurate records for Connections Academy students.
  • Supporting families through the school withdrawal process, assisting with data collection regarding withdrawal.
  • Reporting and referring critical incidents that jeopardize student well-being as obligated by law, administrative regulations, or ethical standards.
  • Assisting teachers when students enroll mid-semester, ensuring that previous grades, credits, and evaluations are handled appropriately.
  • Implementing special programs such as Advanced Placement support, SAT and ACT Preparation, and college entrance preparation.
  • Helping students to research and understand their post-secondary career and educational options.
  • Assisting with student preparation of applications for college and jobs.
  • Educating students and parents about college admissions requirements and financial aid.
  • Supporting professional development activities for teachers and school staff members.
  • Coordinating high school graduation ceremonies.
  • Teaching and grading duties of one or more courses such as Freshman Success, Senior Success, College Prep with SAT, or Career Planning.
  • Hosting at least one content-based LiveLesson and one office hour per week.
  • Working with school staff to coordinate and attend social activities and relevant field trips for students and families.
  • Devising and implementing virtual methods of creating and maintaining a "school community."
  • Participating in the administration of state testing, including in-person proctoring of WIDA and/or SBAC/WCAS testing.
  • Participating in student recruiting sessions and other marketing efforts that require staff representation.
  • Being a collaborative member of IEP and 504 teams, sharing course progress insights about students and providing feedback on goals and accommodations.
  • Working collaboratively within a professional learning community of instructional staff to review student progress data and improve teaching practices.
  • Attending and participating in in-person training sessions and team-building activities scheduled throughout the school year.
  • Completing the duties of an assigned or volunteered-for representative or Career Ladder position that has a school-wide focus.

Requirements

  • Must have Washington teacher certification in any Secondary subject or K-8 Elementary Education.
  • Residence in Washington preferred.
  • Team player track record, highly flexible, and with a demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated strong technology skills (especially Microsoft Office and Google Suite products, synchronous classroom programs such as Zoom, and third-party educational software).
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with proven time management and organizational skills, especially when working independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues to foster an inclusive work and school environment.
  • Student- and family-focused approach, with demonstrated ability to create an inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environment.
  • Ability to travel for one, possibly two, weeks at a time for key school events, including overnight travel.
  • Must be able to use a personal electronic device and email address for 2-step authentication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in online education or virtual teaching environments.
  • Familiarity with state testing and educational regulations in Washington.
  • Experience with crisis management and student support services.

Benefits

  • Based on Experience and Education, the salary ranges from $40,000-55,000.
