About the position

The Water Systems Manager is responsible for management of the public water systems under the authority of the Water Commission. This position involves supporting the Water Commission in the management of the City's water system, preparing for and facilitating monthly meetings, maintaining statistics and data for reports, issuing water permits, and participating in the determination of water revenues and rates. The manager will also prepare the departmental budget, track expenditures, gather data for consumer confidence reports, and generate monthly reports for state submission. Additionally, participation in regulatory actions as needed is required, along with performing related work as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Water Commission in the management of the City's water system
  • Prepares for and facilitates the Water Commission monthly meetings
  • Maintains statistics and data in order to generate periodic reports and the Annual Statistical Report
  • Issues water permits and maintains a tracking system of all permits
  • Participates in the determination of water revenues and rates on an ongoing basis
  • Prepares the departmental budget, tracks expenditures and makes projections
  • Gathers data and information for and issues the consumers confidence reports annually
  • Generates, prepares and submits monthly reports to be submitted to the state
  • Participates in regulatory actions as needed
  • Performs related work as required

Requirements

  • Experience in water system management or a related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prepare and manage budgets
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to public water systems

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with government agencies
  • Familiarity with water quality standards and regulations
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role
