Responsibilities

  • Perform journey-level welding work including project design and construction of metal and nonferrous structures.
  • Conduct post-welding cleanup and inspect finished work for compliance with specifications.
  • Assist the supervisor in planning projects and requesting supplies and repair parts.
  • Maintain inventory of materials and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Oversee work performance and educational requirements for the welder apprenticeship program.
  • Train adults in custody in the operation, maintenance, and repair of physical plant systems.

Requirements

  • Associates of Applied Science in Welding Fabrication and one year of experience including design work, or two years and six months experience as a skilled welder, with one year including design work.
  • Experience in supervision and direction of work.
  • Experience designing, planning, and constructing metal and nonferrous structures.
  • Proficiency in using shielded metal arc, acetylene, and inert gas welding techniques.
  • Ability to use a variety of maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Experience in maintaining equipment and providing preventative maintenance.
  • Ability to estimate material requirements for repairs and inspect finished work for compliance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a correctional facility environment.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols related to welding and maintenance work.
