WGL - Materials Engineer I (Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, Industrial Engineering) Washington Gas has an immediate opening for a Materials Engineer. This is great opportunity for a recent or upcoming college Grad.
Understand the composition of the natural gas network and the design principles that govern its construction, operations, and maintenance.
Analyze new and alternative materials proposed by Company, Contractor, or Vendor personnel.
Write summary reports of material evaluations, recommending incorporation or denial of items into the Company inventory and/or natural gas system.
Assist with the operations of the materials testing laboratory, examining extracted piping and components from the field for defects.
Perform engineering analyses of operational characteristics of materials, such as flow capacities, pressure drops, strength, impact resistance, etc.
Review technical data sheets and material safety data sheets to determine product suitability within the natural gas system.
Evaluate installation and operations practices as they occur in the field.
Coordinate pilot evaluations of products with various business units, and perform site visits as materials are installed and maintained.
Coordinate vendor visits to review product lines and new technologies.
Assist with the writing of engineering standards and specifications.
Perform research related to the root cause of material failures.
Write summary reports of findings from material failure research, filed as part of a federal requirement to analyze accidents and failures.
Develop and deliver presentations to report project statuses to various audiences.
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering field required.
0-2 years experience in engineering, industrial processes, and/or materials testing.
Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners.
Demonstrated ability to logically analyze and solve narrowly-defined business problems.
Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write and present logically and concisely to all levels within an organization.
Proven ability to use computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office, for data management, research, analysis and reporting purposes.
Demonstrated ability to participate in a multiple person team on a college project prior to graduation.
Competitive salary range of $65,000.00 to $94,250.00 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills.
