About the position

Princeton University's Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking a Wireless Network Engineer to enhance and maintain robust wireless network services for the University community. The role involves designing, deploying, and troubleshooting wireless networks, ensuring the availability, reliability, and security of over 12,000 wireless access points on campus. The engineer will lead design activities for new projects and collaborate with other engineers to continuously improve the wireless network infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering, designing, testing, and deploying wireless network infrastructure and systems throughout the full lifecycle.
  • Oversee deployment of wireless network configurations for operational needs and network expansion.
  • Manage special projects, including requirements gathering, network design, deployment, and testing.
  • Optimize monitoring and integration of networking environments for operational efficiencies.
  • Utilize network monitoring tools to develop configurations and operational processes for campus wireless devices.
  • Perform integration and deployment tasks for campus network technologies.
  • Test and certify new wireless devices and systems for use in the wireless infrastructure.
  • Assist University departments with wireless network operational issues and initiatives.
  • Document procedures and run books for the wireless network infrastructure.
  • Identify areas for improvement in networking and monitoring systems.
  • Develop and review high-density wireless designs using site survey tools.
  • Troubleshoot campus wireless networking and client connectivity issues.
  • Perform code upgrades and testing for wireless infrastructure and Clearpass.
  • Manage ongoing wireless network enhancement efforts with various stakeholders.
  • Update and maintain campus building CAD drawings and device records.
  • Provide level 2 support for wireless networking and monitoring services.
  • Monitor wireless network performance indicators and respond to issues.
  • Provide on-call support for network upgrades and emergency issues.
  • Apply routine bug fixes, security updates, and configuration changes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience managing or supporting wireless network and monitoring infrastructure.
  • Experience with wireless network design tools, such as Ekahau.
  • Experience with Aruba HPE AirWave Network Monitoring system or similar monitoring systems.
  • Experience configuring Aruba wireless APs and controllers.
  • Knowledge of wireless protocols, including 802.11a, g, n, ac, ax standards.
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols including TCP/IP.
  • Experience with controller-based wireless network infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of Aruba Clear Pass.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and respond to shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work outside of normal hours and be on call for network maintenance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA) certification.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and network management tools.
  • Familiarity with Wi-Fi troubleshooting tools and Aruba Visual RF.
  • Experience with Aruba wireless equipment and AirWave.
  • Experience with Aruba 7xxx controller platform and specific AP models.
