About the position

The WRRC Climate Data Analyst position at the Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a regular, full-time role that plays a crucial part in developing gridded climate products and decision support tools for resource managers and stakeholders. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing rainfall and air temperature data, preparing monthly reports, and developing computer code to calculate climate statistics at various time intervals. This role also involves creating gridded geospatial climate products and ensuring quality control and assurance by automatically detecting errors in Hawai?i Mesonet station data. Additionally, the analyst will assist in developing decision support tools and a climate dashboard specifically for agricultural producers on Hawai?i Island. The position requires participation in weekly project meetings and community outreach events, contributing to scientific publications, and delivering presentations at conferences. The continuation of employment is contingent upon program needs, satisfactory performance, and compliance with applicable laws. The role offers a monthly salary range of $4,264 to $6,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Natural Resource Management or equivalent.
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience in computer coding, research, data analysis, and community outreach.
  • Proficient knowledge in at least one (1) computer syntax programming language, web design, and research literature review and writing.
  • Familiarity with the Hawai?i Climate Data Portal (HCDP), the Pacific Drought Knowledge Exchange (PDKE), and Hawai?i Mesonet projects.
  • Proficient ability to work independently to solve complex web design and computer programming problems.
  • Ability to engage meaningfully with a range of stakeholders and work with a diverse team of project collaborators.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Natural Resource Management or equivalent.
  • Experience working with large data sets from satellite and in-situ stations.
  • Working knowledge of Python for data analysis and display.
  • Experience with GIS data formats and analysis.
  • Experience in presenting scientific results to the general public in oral presentations and documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on projects with minimal direction.
  • Understanding of aspects of climate change and its impact on Hawaii.
