The WTO RF Engineer position at China Lake, CA, focuses on providing comprehensive engineering capabilities for radar and antenna systems. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including system design, integration, and performance analysis. The engineer will engage in cost and risk assessments, conduct trade studies, and oversee system testing. A significant aspect of the job involves analyzing and resolving in-service problems related to radar transmitting and receiving systems, as well as various antennas and RF components. The engineer will work with a variety of devices including signal generators, transmitters, RF memory devices, and both wide and narrow band antennas. These antennas may include wave guide, coax, stripline, microstrip, fin line, image, dielectric wave guide, surface wave, slots, linear, planar, apertures, norms, reflectors, and more. The role also requires expertise in radomes, feeds, and transmission lines, which may involve complex interactions with metal, dielectric, magnetic, and plasma bodies. Additionally, the engineer will analyze the propagation medium and environment, focusing on factors such as scattering, multipath effects, and propagation loss. Investigating nonlinear interactions of microwave signals with plasma and other materials is also a critical component of the job. The engineer will need to assess the radar cross-section (RCS) and the operational characteristics of antennas in extreme environments, including high temperatures, high wind shear, and prolonged exposure to salt air.
