About the position

As a Yard Asset Manager at Knight Transportation, you will play a crucial role in overseeing all equipment at the assigned terminal yard. This position is essential for providing immediate support to drivers and ensuring the smooth operation of yard maintenance. You will manage a team that may include vendors, contractors, and employees, and will be responsible for the maintenance and monitoring of all yard operations. This includes overseeing loading ramps, parking area spacing, key accountability, surface maintenance, lane marking, and mowing operations. Your coordination with yard security vendors will ensure that gates are properly staffed and that load check-in and checkout procedures are followed meticulously. In addition to managing yard operations, you will coordinate with maintenance vendors to ensure that both the yard and driver areas are clean and well-maintained. You will also provide necessary support to drivers during their absence or during evening and weekend hours, ensuring that they can deliver loads safely and on time. Your responsibilities will include performing selected facility maintenance, receiving, cleaning, and storing equipment in the yard as required, and ensuring that all data entry and paperwork is completed for drivers picking up pre-planned loads. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all vehicles are properly placed with appropriate spacing and providing operational and administrative support to terminal leadership as necessary. Your proactive approach will be vital in assisting others in achieving the organization's objectives, contributing to a culture of high expectations and exceptional performance.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight of all equipment at assigned terminal yard and provide immediate support to drivers as needed.
• Manage staff which includes vendors, contractors and/or employees.
• Oversee the maintenance and monitoring of all yard maintenance operations including loading ramps, parking area spacing, key accountability, surface, lane marking and mowing operation.
• Coordinate with yard security vendor to ensure gates are properly staffed and load check in/checkout procedures are followed.
• Coordinate with maintenance vendors to ensure yard and driver areas are clean and well maintained.
• Provide drivers with necessary support during absence or evening/weekend hours to ensure safe and timely delivery of loads.
• Perform selected facility maintenance as required.
• Receive, clean and store equipment in the yard as required.
• Ensure all data entry and/or paperwork is completed for drivers picking up pre-planned loads.
• Ensure all vehicles are properly placed with appropriate spacing.
• Provide operational and/or administrative support to terminal leadership as necessary.
• Proactively assist others in achieving the organization's objectives.

Requirements

• 2+ years experience in the transportation industry required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to manage and communicate well with co-workers.
• Working knowledge of the transportation industry.
• Ability to work under stress while remaining professional at all times.
• Be proactive and work efficiently and independently with good communication skills.
