Gateway Domestic Violence Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual for the role of Part-Time Domestic Violence Advocate. This position is crucial in providing support to individuals affected by domestic violence, ensuring their safety and well-being. The advocate will work approximately 20 hours per week, with a schedule that includes evening shifts and rotating weekends. The role is hybrid, involving both shelter operations and childcare responsibilities. The advocate will be responsible for answering crisis hotline calls, providing emotional support to residents, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment within the shelter. Additionally, the advocate will provide childcare for children aged 6 weeks to 4 years while their mothers attend support groups, which includes setting up activities and ensuring a clean and safe play area. The position requires a strong commitment to helping others, as well as the ability to work independently and make decisions in high-pressure situations. The advocate will be expected to engage with residents and children in a supportive manner, fostering a sense of safety and trust. This role is vital in helping families navigate their challenges and providing them with the resources they need to heal and move forward. The advocate will also participate in 34 hours of paid training before working independently, ensuring they are well-prepared to handle the responsibilities of the position.
