About the position

GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to drive the transformation of its insurance business by building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications. This role is crucial in transitioning from a traditional IT model to a tech organization focused on engineering excellence, fostering a culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement. The Senior Engineer will work on Mobile/Web solutions to ensure a frictionless customer experience while maintaining high standards of protection and availability in a fast-paced, hyper-growth environment.

Responsibilities

  • Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems.
  • Build product definition and leverage technical skills to drive towards the right solution.
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle.
  • Lead design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate engineering quality.
  • Define, create, and support reusable application components/patterns from a business and technology perspective.
  • Utilize programming languages like Swift, Objective C, JavaScript, TypeScript, Dart, Python, C#, SQL, and NoSQL databases.
  • Work with Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and various Azure tools and services.
  • Mentor other engineers and share best practices to improve processes within and across teams.
  • Utilize developer tooling across the software development life cycle for advanced-level Mobile/Web/UI design, implementation, and maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • Fluency and specialization with at least two modern languages such as Swift, Objective C, JavaScript, TypeScript, JSX, Dart, Python, C++, or C# including object-oriented design.
  • Proven understanding of micro-services architecture and extensible REST APIs.
  • Experience in leveraging PowerShell scripting.
  • Fluency in DevOps Concepts, Cloud Architecture, and Azure DevOps Operational Framework.
  • Experience in existing Operational Portals such as Azure Portal.
  • Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments.
  • Experience in Datacenter structure, capabilities, and offerings, including the Azure platform and its native services.
  • Experience in security protocols and products: Understanding of Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth.
  • Experience in Azure Network (Subscription, Security zoning, etc).
  • In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
  • Experience building the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems.
  • Experience with Architecture components and Navigation Architecture Components.
  • Experience in Application Frameworks.
  • Experience with XCode, VS Code, or a similar IDE.
  • Experience in Risk assessment.
  • Strong critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate to both senior leadership and highly technical personnel.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
  • Experience in open-source frameworks.
