About the position

The position of Retail Manager in Training at Spec's is designed to support the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager in achieving all store objectives, which include maximizing sales, ensuring team member productivity, assisting in payroll controls, and driving overall profitability in the store. This role involves training to supervise various non-management team members such as sales staff, stockers, cashiers, and receivers. The individual will also assist throughout the store as needed and must be proficient in all in-store functions. The Retail Manager in Training will actively demonstrate the company's Mission Statement and Core Values on a daily basis. Responsibilities include maintaining uniform standards, managing bank deposits, responding to communications, and driving guest service standards by motivating team members. The role requires proficiency in operational disciplines, including receiving, cashiering, stocking, and sales. The individual will also be responsible for training team members on operational disciplines and maintaining a favorable working relationship with all employees to promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment. Additionally, the Retail Manager in Training will assist in resolving guest complaints, supervising cashiers, preparing daily transaction records, and working with the Store Manager to create schedules and assign tasks. The position also involves working with Loss Prevention to train team members on safety and security expectations, documenting workplace injuries, and reporting instances of theft. The individual will be expected to walk the store daily to review pricing, verify price tags, and ensure cleanliness and safety standards are met. Attendance and timeliness are crucial, as the role requires active participation in the store's operations and management training.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager in achieving store objectives.
  • Train to supervise sales staff, stockers, cashiers, and receivers.
  • Open and close the store, arm and disarm the alarm system.
  • Manage bank deposits and balance the safe.
  • Drive guest service standards by motivating team members.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all operational disciplines including receiving, cashiering, and stocking.
  • Assist in hiring processes using the Human Capital Management (HCM) system.
  • Communicate clearly with employees regarding performance expectations.
  • Assist guests with product suggestions, focusing on in-house brands.
  • Supervise cashiers and review till reconciliation for accuracy.
  • Work with the Store Manager to create schedules and assign tasks to team members.
  • Document and report workplace injuries and instances of theft.
  • Maintain a favorable working relationship with all employees to promote positive morale.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.

Requirements

  • Retail sales management experience preferred.
  • Associate degree or higher preferred, but experience is acceptable.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information.
  • Effective writing and presentation skills for business purposes.
  • Mathematical skills to perform basic calculations and percentages.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to providing extraordinary service.
  • Ability to manage stress in a fast-paced environment.
