About the position

The Assistant Store Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the Store Manager to achieve all store objectives, which include maximizing sales, ensuring team member productivity, assisting in payroll controls, and driving overall profitability. This position involves direct supervision of sales staff, stockers, cashiers, receivers, and all other non-management team members. The Assistant Store Manager is expected to be proficient in all in-store functions and assist as needed throughout the store. This role requires a strong commitment to the company's mission and core values, as well as the ability to maintain a positive working environment that promotes employee morale and productivity. In addition to supervisory duties, the Assistant Store Manager is responsible for various operational tasks, including managing bank deposits, responding to after-hours alarm calls, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. They are expected to drive guest service standards by motivating team members and modeling expected service behaviors. The Assistant Store Manager must also communicate clearly with employees regarding performance expectations and productivity, while seeking to continually develop staff through training and support. The role requires a hands-on approach, as the Assistant Store Manager will perform any job duties in the store when needed, including cashiering, stocking, and assisting guests with product suggestions. They will also be involved in the hiring process, assist in the application of discipline, and support the Store Manager in creating schedules and assigning tasks to team members. The Assistant Store Manager must be able to handle guest complaints and concerns effectively, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Store Manager in achieving store objectives including maximizing sales and profitability.
  • Supervise sales staff, stockers, cashiers, receivers, and other non-management team members.
  • Open and close the store, arm and disarm the alarm system.
  • Manage bank deposits and balance the safe.
  • Drive guest service standards by motivating team members and modeling expected service behaviors.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all operational disciplines including receiving, cashiering, stocking, and sales.
  • Train team members on operational disciplines and TABC compliance.
  • Maintain a favorable working relationship with all employees to promote a cooperative working environment.
  • Communicate clearly with employees concerning performance expectations and productivity.
  • Assist sales staff and cashiers with completing sales, especially complicated transactions.
  • Resolve guest complaints and concerns, involving the Store Manager or District Manager when needed.
  • Supervise cashiers and review till reconciliation for accuracy.
  • Work with the Store Manager to create schedules and assign tasks to team members.
  • Assist in the hiring process using the Human Capital Management (HCM) system.
  • Prepare for inventory and assist in the inventory process.
  • Review and verify accuracy of all receiving paperwork prior to submission to AP.
  • Support Store Manager by ensuring hours compliance for team members.
  • Document and report workplace injuries and instances of theft promptly.

Requirements

  • Previous supervisory experience or completion of the MIT program is required.
  • Retail sales management experience is preferred.
  • An associate degree or higher is preferred, but experience is valued.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information.
  • Effective writing skills for business purposes.
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from guests and team members.
  • Mathematical skills to perform basic calculations and understand discounts and percentages.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to providing extraordinary service.
  • Ability to manage stress in a fast-paced environment.
