About the position

The Assistant Store Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the Store Manager to achieve all store objectives, which include maximizing sales, ensuring team member productivity, assisting in payroll controls, and driving overall profitability. This position involves direct supervision of sales staff, stockers, cashiers, receivers, and all other non-management team members. The Assistant Store Manager is expected to be proficient in all in-store functions and assist as needed throughout the store. This role requires a strong commitment to the company's mission and values, as well as the ability to maintain a positive and productive work environment. In addition to supervisory duties, the Assistant Store Manager is responsible for various operational tasks, including managing bank deposits, responding to after-hours alarm calls, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. They are expected to drive guest service standards by motivating team members and modeling expected service behaviors. The Assistant Store Manager must also communicate clearly with employees regarding performance expectations and productivity, while seeking to continually develop staff through training and support. The role requires a hands-on approach, as the Assistant Store Manager will assist guests with product suggestions, resolve complaints, and ensure accurate cash handling. They will work closely with the Store Manager to create schedules, assign tasks, and prepare for inventory. The Assistant Store Manager must be able to handle stress in a fast-paced environment and possess strong time management skills. Physical demands include lifting and moving heavy items, standing for long periods, and maintaining a clean and organized store environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Store Manager in achieving store objectives including maximizing sales and profitability.
  • Supervise sales staff, stockers, cashiers, receivers, and other non-management team members.
  • Open and close the store, manage bank deposits, and respond to after-hours alarm calls.
  • Drive guest service standards by motivating team members and modeling expected service behaviors.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all operational disciplines including receiving, cashiering, stocking, and sales.
  • Train team members on operational disciplines and TABC compliance.
  • Communicate performance expectations and productivity to employees clearly and directly.
  • Assist guests with product suggestions and resolve complaints as needed.
  • Supervise cashiers and review till reconciliation for accuracy.
  • Work with the Store Manager to create schedules and assign tasks to team members.
  • Assist in the hiring process and application of discipline with guidance from the District Manager.
  • Prepare for inventory and assist in the inventory process.
  • Maintain a favorable working relationship with all employees to promote a cooperative work environment.
  • Document and report workplace injuries and instances of theft immediately.
  • Walk the store daily to review pricing, verify price tags, and ensure cleanliness.

Requirements

  • Previous supervisory experience or completion of the MIT program is required.
  • Retail sales management experience is preferred.
  • An associate degree or higher is preferred, but experience is valued.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information and governmental regulations.
  • Effective writing and presentation skills for business purposes.
  • Mathematical skills to perform basic calculations and handle discounts and percentages.
  • Strong work ethic, responsibility, reliability, and commitment to providing extraordinary service.
