About the position

The Barista position at our Café is a vital role that ensures the smooth operation of our coffee service and customer interactions. Under the guidance of the General Manager, the Barista is responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall success of the Café. This position is primarily independent, with support available as needed, allowing for a dynamic work environment where initiative and self-management are key. The Barista will operate Café equipment and prepare a range of beverages, including coffee and specialty drinks, as well as bottled drinks and baked goods. Maintaining cleanliness and adhering to sanitation guidelines is crucial, as the Barista will be responsible for ongoing cleaning of food surfaces, machinery, utensils, and customer areas. In addition to beverage preparation, the Barista will stock and merchandise the café in accordance with company policies, ensuring a well-organized and inviting shopping environment. Exceptional customer service is a cornerstone of this role; the Barista will greet customers, assist them with their orders, and promote various company programs and initiatives, such as discount cards and donation programs. Balancing the cash drawer at the end of each shift is also a key responsibility, ensuring compliance with the Loss Prevention Policy. The Barista may also assist the bookstore as needed, showcasing the versatility required in this position. Overall, the Barista plays a crucial role in creating a welcoming atmosphere and delivering high-quality service to our customers.

Responsibilities

• Operates Café equipment and prepares coffee, specialty drinks, bottled drinks, and baked and prepared goods.
• Maintains a clean environment within local, state, and federal sanitation guidelines.
• Completes ongoing daily and weekly cleaning of food surfaces, machinery and utensils, and customer areas.
• Stocks and merchandises café in accordance with company policies and procedures, maintaining a straight, organized, and clean shopping environment.
• Greets customers entering the store and café, and provides exceptional customer service on each transaction.
• Successfully promotes all POS initiatives and company programs including discount cards, magazine sales, pre-sale vouchers, and donation programs.
• Balances cash drawer following each shift within allowable variances as identified in the Loss Prevention Policy.
• Assists the bookstore as needed.
• Performs other tasks as needed.

Requirements

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Successful completion of all required background screenings.

Nice-to-haves

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Ability to learn and operate multiple café machines, including blenders, ovens, and espresso machines.
• Computer and cash register skills.
