About the position
The Student Specific Education Support Personnel (Category 2) at Bourne Public Schools is responsible for providing individualized support to students as outlined in their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or 504 Plans. This role involves collaborating with teachers and other staff to ensure that students receive the necessary accommodations and modifications to succeed academically and socially. The position requires a commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for students with diverse needs.
Responsibilities
- Support students within designated ratios based on their disabilities and learning needs.
- Assist in implementing the daily schedule for students.
- Supervise students across various settings throughout the day.
- Implement Individualized Education Plans, including accommodations and specialized instruction.
- Implement individualized behavior and social-emotional plans, including data collection.
- Provide academic support based on classroom assignments and curriculum.
- Assist students with organization throughout the school setting.
- Collaborate with teachers regarding students' needs and modifications.
- Assist with record keeping, data collection, and attendance.
- Provide follow-up activities to teachers' lessons, working with students individually or in small groups.
- Respond to students' needs when the teacher is unavailable.
- Participate in designated in-service programs.
- Supervise assigned students on field trips and other activities.
- Perform assigned school duties such as lunch, recess, and bus supervision.
- Provide small group instruction for math, reading, writing, and other activities.
- Help maintain a safe classroom environment.
- Assist with classroom preparation and organization.
- Support students' social-emotional needs through positive relationship building.
- Assist students in dressing for the weather as needed.
- Monitor and promote physical and social-emotional safety throughout the day.
- Support students in accessing technology.
- Assist with note-taking and/or scribing for students.
- Assist with the development of state assessment portfolios or proctoring when appropriate.
- Ensure all accommodations in the District Curriculum Accommodation Plan are implemented.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Building Administrator.
Requirements
- Associate's degree or higher preferred.
- Experience with students in special education and/or regular education preferred.
- College-level courses in education preferred.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working in a noisy, stressful environment while maintaining student safety.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations and work independently.
