About the position

The Regular Substitute Art Teacher at Mill Middle School is responsible for providing instruction in the art curriculum for students in grades 5 through 8. This position is essential for maintaining the continuity of education during the absence of the regular teacher. The assignment is expected to begin as soon as possible and will last until January 24, 2025. The teacher will create a positive learning environment that fosters student engagement and creativity, while also developing both long and short-range instructional plans that align with the New York State standards. The successful candidate will implement these plans effectively, utilizing formative and summative assessments to gauge student progress and adapt instruction as necessary. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Regular Substitute Art Teacher will handle various administrative duties, including maintaining attendance records and communicating with parents regarding student performance and classroom activities. The ideal candidate will possess a valid New York State teaching certificate in Art and demonstrate successful classroom experience at the middle school level. They should also exhibit strong interpersonal skills, the ability to motivate students, and a commitment to creating a flexible, student-centered classroom environment. Collaboration with peers, supervisors, and special education teachers is crucial, as is the ability to incorporate differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners. The teacher will also be expected to reflect on their teaching practices to foster personal and professional growth.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • A valid New York State teaching certificate in Art.
  • Demonstrated successful classroom experience at the middle school level.
  • Ability to motivate and instruct students in developing problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with peers and supervisors.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Exceptional classroom management skills.
  • Knowledge of NYS Regents/Standards and ability to plan lessons for Regents level courses.
