About the position

The Senior Payroll and Personnel Clerk in the Department of Homelessness & Supportive Housing plays a crucial role in the Human Resources Team, overseeing payroll and personnel transactions. This position is responsible for onboarding and offboarding employees, managing payroll calculations, and ensuring accurate record-keeping of personnel information. The role requires attention to detail and the ability to analyze and resolve payroll discrepancies while providing support to employees regarding their payroll-related inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee payroll and personnel transactions for the Department of Homelessness & Supportive Housing.
  • Calculate, review, verify, and post complex payroll and timekeeping information.
  • Input data regarding personnel, payroll, and timekeeping into automated systems.
  • Generate and review automated reports, including sick leave usage reports.
  • Meet with employees to discuss wage supplementation for leaves of absence.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret Memoranda of Understanding (MOU's) for represented employee organizations.
  • Respond to employee and departmental complaints/inquiries regarding payroll/personnel transactions.
  • Prepare forms, correspondence, and inter-departmental memos related to payroll/personnel transactions.
  • Maintain detailed files and recordkeeping systems for payroll/personnel transactions.

Requirements

  • Two years of verifiable experience preparing, calculating, and maintaining payroll and/or personnel records.
  • One year of experience preparing, calculating, and maintaining payroll and/or personnel records AND completion of 30 semester/45 quarter units from an accredited institution with a minimum of 12 semester/18 quarter units in business administration.
  • One year of experience preparing, calculating, and maintaining payroll and/or personnel records AND possession of a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Certificate.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of verifiable experience conducting onboarding and/or offboarding sessions.
  • One year of verifiable experience providing consultation on wage supplementation options for parental leave.
  • Experience processing payroll within the City and County of San Francisco.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $87,620.00 - $106,496.00
  • Hybrid work location with onsite and remote weekly schedule
  • Temporary exempt appointment for up to 24 months
