About the position

The Database Administrator 2 position is a remote role focused on the development, implementation, and maintenance of database systems, specifically for the Financial Data Warehouse. The role involves performance tuning, database design, and ensuring data integrity while working with Oracle databases. The candidate will collaborate with programmers and analysts to optimize database performance and assist users with data-related inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Create production databases by entering codes.
  • Monitor database performance using utility programs.
  • Direct programmers and analysts to implement changes in the database management system.
  • Review and correct database programs as necessary.
  • Answer user questions regarding database functionality.
  • Confer with coworkers to assess the impact of database changes on other systems.
  • Modify database programs to enhance processing performance.
  • Assist in planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems.
  • Evaluate user requests for new data elements and systems, incorporating them into the existing data environment.
  • Coordinate data usage to ensure integrity and control redundancy.
  • Perform data modeling and prototyping, including logical and physical data modeling.
  • Design relational database models and create physical data models from logical models.
  • Implement security recovery procedures for databases.
  • Determine and implement database search strategies and storage requirements.
  • Maintain a data dictionary to ensure uniformity of definitions and standards.
  • Monitor database performance and recommend efficiency improvements.
  • Create test database environments for application sections.
  • Execute procedures to retrieve and recover databases from failures.
  • Assist with database software installation and analysis, design, and implementation of databases.
  • Benchmark and threshold test databases, establishing necessary security controls.

Requirements

  • 4-7 years of experience in database administration or a related area.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in database management.
  • Experience with Oracle database design, analysis, and performance tuning.
  • Knowledge of database structures, theories, and current technologies.
  • Experience in creating technical and functional design documentation.
  • Experience within the software development lifecycle using Agile methodology.
  • Experience with multi-tier system/application development.
