About the position

The Resident Assistant at The Salvation Army's Hospitality House plays a crucial role in supporting homeless families by monitoring their activities, ensuring safety, and providing assistance in resolving homelessness. This position involves engaging with residents, managing facility operations, and maintaining a supportive environment for individuals in recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor activity of residents in the facility and maintain security and safety.
  • Conduct regular facility security checks during assigned shifts.
  • Reinforce policies and expectations for clients living in the facility.
  • Complete and maintain facility incident reports as directed.
  • Answer and screen incoming calls, providing appropriate transfers to staff or resources.
  • Assist guests visiting the facility.
  • Maintain an activity log during each shift, documenting time, names, and details of activities.
  • Complete preliminary intake and interview forms as required.
  • Update statistical data for residents entering or exiting the program.
  • Provide feedback to staff regarding residents' well-being and progress.
  • Assist residents with questions and requests.
  • Oversee residents in completing house duties and provide necessary supplies.
  • Prepare meals when required and maintain cleanliness of the facility.
  • Ensure proper storage of facility supplies and prepare vacant rooms for incoming residents.
  • Conduct screenings for substance use or harmful behaviors and report as per policy.
  • Provide transportation to residents when necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to social service ethics.
  • Perform other assigned duties related to the role.

Requirements

  • Completion of a High School Level Education or GED.
  • A minimum of one year working in recovery services, social services, or human services.
  • Experience working with individuals in recovery from substance abuse and varying levels of mental health.
  • Experience de-escalating conflict and handling crisis situations.
  • Proficiency in operating general office equipment, including computers and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to pass a complete background check and maintain a valid Class C California Driver's License.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with individuals who have completed The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation program.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
