About the position

The Purchasing Manager will serve in a supervisory capacity overseeing department buyers, ensuring effective communication and teamwork within the team and with internal and external suppliers and customers. The role involves managing the procurement process to support production schedules and customer forecasts, driving profitability through strategic vendor relationships, and ensuring compliance with procurement standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a process for updating master data for parts, subassemblies, and final assemblies in the ERP system.
  • Create and manage computer models for calculating inventory levels, reorder points, and reorder quantities.
  • Lead vendor identification, qualification, approval, and review of key metrics.
  • Support contract review and RFQ processes, and review/approve purchase orders and invoices.
  • Establish processes to identify, maintain, track, and present key performance metrics.
  • Ensure buyers maintain and publish an accurate receiving schedule to warehouse personnel.
  • Maintain and publish reports to management, including period-ending reports.
  • Drive root cause analysis and process improvement for personal job responsibilities and for the department.
  • Develop exception reporting tools and resolve exceptions within the department, communicating and escalating as needed.
  • Manage education and training processes for buyers, including job coverage and succession planning.
  • Ensure compliance of purchase orders, vendor qualifications, and department documentation with expectations.
  • Maintain an effective personal buyer skill set and support transaction accuracy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of ERP software, preferably Epicor.
  • Three to five years of production control and inventory management experience, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive.
  • Experience in a 24/7 manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience in a $110MM+ spend environment is preferred.
  • Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) experience is a plus.
