About the position

The School Aide position at Amergis involves working closely with students who require instructional and behavioral assistance under the supervision of the special education department. The role includes providing support for personal, physical mobility, and therapeutic care needs, as well as facilitating learning activities and ensuring the well-being of students in various educational settings.

Responsibilities

  • Follow through with IEP objectives including math, reading, speech, independent skills, and managing behavioral deficits and excesses, one on one or as a general classroom aide.
  • Facilitate teacher-directed learning activities including lesson plans, worksheets, reinforcement systems, small groups, social games, and work assistance.
  • Assist students when included in general education classes.
  • Communicate pertinent information to teachers.
  • Accompany students during recess and lunch periods, along with community experiences.
  • Strictly adhere to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students, parents, and classroom activities.
  • Assist with activities of prescribed programs including those written by related service personnel such as PT, OT, and SLP.
  • Assist students in the development of independent skills through self-care activities such as toileting, clothing routines, feeding, and personal hygiene.
  • May be asked to assist in behavior management techniques at the direction of the teacher and/or other school professionals.
  • Assist teacher with clerical duties including making stimuli, making copies, maintaining a clean and organized classroom, preparing materials, and assignment scoring.
  • Assist with transfers and ambulation.
  • Appropriately report changes in client status or as directed by IHP/IEP.

Requirements

  • Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participate in and complete Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR certification if applicable.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
