About the position

The 1st Class Lineman position at Deep East Texas Electric Coop Inc. involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution and transmission systems. The role requires adherence to safety practices and procedures while working in various environments, including climbing poles and using specialized equipment. The position is essential for ensuring the reliability and safety of electrical services in the region.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems, including conduits, cables, wires, and related equipment.
• Test conductors according to electrical diagrams and specifications to identify corresponding conductors and prevent incorrect connections.
• Open switches or attach grounding devices to remove electrical hazards from disturbed or fallen lines or to facilitate repairs.
• Climb poles or use truck-mounted buckets to access equipment.
• Drive vehicles equipped with tools and materials to job sites.
• Identify defective sectionalizing devices, circuit breakers, fuses, voltage regulators, transformers, switches, relays, or wiring using wiring diagrams and electrical-testing instruments.
• Dig holes using augers and set poles using cranes and power equipment.
• Place insulating or fireproofing materials over conductors and joints.
• Install watt-hour meters and connect service drops between power lines and consumers' facilities.
• Splice or solder cables together or to overhead transmission lines, customer service lines, or street light lines using hand tools, epoxies, or specialized equipment.
• Assist with framing, setting, and installation of poles, load poles, transformers, and work materials onto trucks.
• Assist lineman on pole with maintenance and repair of lines.
• Maintain right-of-way and clean department vehicles.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 18 years old due to work environment.
• Valid Driver's License is required.
• Steady work history with no breaks or gaps in employment of more than 6 months in the last 2 years.
• No felonies; employer conducts background check and drug screen.
