About the position

Dollar General is seeking a dedicated and skilled HR Generalist for our Distribution Center in Blair, NE. This full-time position is responsible for comprehensive human resources management for both hourly and salaried employees. The HR Generalist will serve as a vital point of contact, working closely with the Sr. Human Resources Manager to ensure effective HR practices are implemented throughout the facility. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including employee relations, staffing, process management, training, and compliance with employment laws and company policies. In the realm of employee relations, the HR Generalist will coordinate and conduct orientation and onboarding programs for new hires, fostering an open-door policy and a positive work environment. This includes planning and managing employee recognition and incentive programs, as well as leading employee engagement initiatives that enhance workplace morale and community involvement. The HR Generalist will also conduct investigations into employee issues, prepare reports, and assist management in formulating disciplinary actions when necessary. The staffing responsibilities include planning and coordinating the recruitment of non-exempt applicants, developing effective recruiting strategies, and managing the internal job posting process. The HR Generalist will partner with contracted agencies to ensure that temporary staffing needs are met efficiently. Additionally, the role involves maintaining human resources records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with record management requirements. Training is another critical aspect of this position, as the HR Generalist will prepare and facilitate HR leadership training on various topics, including interviewing techniques, equal employment opportunity, and internal policies. Compliance with state and federal employment laws is paramount, and the HR Generalist will monitor and recommend actions to ensure adherence to these regulations. Safety is also a key focus, with the HR Generalist actively participating in safety teams and accident reviews, ensuring that reporting requirements are met and corrective actions are recommended as needed. This position requires a thorough knowledge of human resource principles and practices, strong communication skills, and the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Audits HR records to ensure data integrity.
  • Maintains leaves of absence in partnership with third-party staff.
  • Prepares witness documentation for unemployment hearings.
  • Advises management on legal and policy compliance.
  • Leads non-exempt HR staff in job duties and projects.
  • Recommends and coordinates employee recognition programs.
  • Prepares and facilitates HR leadership training.
  • Manages facility certification programs for employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management, industrial psychology, business administration, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible human resource generalist experience without a degree, or 3 years in a professional HR position with a degree.
  • Thorough knowledge of human resource principles and practices.
  • Strong skills in employee relations, hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and HRIS systems such as Lawson and Kronos.
