About the position

The Sr. Advocate for Services to Aid Families (SAF) at Oswego County Opportunities, Inc. is responsible for providing prevention education and outreach to students in grades 6-12 regarding healthy relationships, dating violence, and sexual assault. This role involves crisis intervention, advocacy, and collaboration with community partners to support youth victims and enhance their safety and well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention services to student victims of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.
  • Facilitate professional trainings for community partners on dating violence and sexual assault victimization.
  • Increase safety and well-being of youth victims through crisis intervention sessions and supportive counseling.
  • Assist victims in connecting to community services for housing, safety, finances, and education.
  • Collaborate with community partners to enhance access to services for victims.
  • Help improve the economic status of RHY victims by connecting them to housing and workforce development programs.
  • Provide education to students on victimization, consent, and bystander response.
  • Document and maintain records of client services and educational sessions.
  • Participate in SAF office hotline answering and 24/7 on-call response.
  • Assist with social media graphics and messaging to raise awareness.
  • Develop and update presentation and training materials.
  • Create comprehensive assessments and individualized service plans for clients.
  • Coordinate service activities to help consumers meet their needs and protect their rights.
  • Work collaboratively with service providers and community support agencies to assist clients.
  • Follow strict safety protocols when working in public on behalf of victims.
  • Teach life skills such as safety planning and healthy relationships.
  • Provide or arrange transportation for clients to connect with necessary resources.
  • Provide on-call 24-Hour Rape Crisis Response crisis intervention as scheduled.
  • Case-manage clients with co-workers and community partners.
  • Plan safety for victims of domestic violence and crime while ensuring staff safety.
  • Maintain records for client-related services and program outcomes.
  • Act in a leadership role and represent the agency to community partners.

Requirements

  • Desire to work with individuals and families in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Detailed knowledge of regulations, services, rights, and responsibilities for the population served.
  • Ability to work with populations with special needs, including those exhibiting aggressive behaviors.
  • Completion and maintenance of all regulatory training for NYS DOH Rape Crisis Certification and Domestic Violence Advocate privilege.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated, resourceful, organized, and adaptable.
  • Familiarity with the geographical layout of the county and knowledge of civil/legal systems and human service resources.
  • Good oral and written communication skills with excellent documentation and reporting skills.
  • Skills for complex data entry and ability to interpret complex information.
  • Exhibit professionalism, good judgment, and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Flexibility with work schedule to meet program needs and participate in 24-hour on-call emergency services.
  • Acceptable health to carry out responsibilities of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver's license with a good driving record and access to a reliable vehicle.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services area preferred.
  • 1-3 years' experience in Human Services/Victim Assistance programming.
