About the position

KIPP Capital Region is seeking a Chief People Officer (CPO) to join their growing team in Albany/Troy, NY! As a member of the Executive Leadership Team and reporting directly to the CEO, the CPO will play a key role in developing and leading KIPP Capital Region's Talent and People Team. In addition to serving as a vital thought partner to the CEO and other senior leaders, the CPO will lead talent strategy, mitigate risk to the organization, and implement talent policies/programs that foster an inclusive work environment where everyone can thrive and grow across KIPP Capital Region's network. The CPO plays a key role in fulfilling this commitment and driving the overall strategic direction of KIPP Capital Region. To do this, the CPO will manage a team of talent and HR professionals, ensuring KIPP Capital is a leader in critical areas such as recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, employee development and engagement, career pathways and performance management, and more. They will ensure the integration of anti-racist practices into all talent systems, and uphold a high standard of excellence in the partnership, service, and support they and their teams provide to schools. The position requires a commitment to KIPP Capital Region's mission and an unwavering belief that all students, regardless of their zip codes or demographics, will learn and achieve if given the right opportunities and support. The CPO will also demonstrate a commitment to advancing racial equity and belief in the vision for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Successful navigation of complex talent/HR issues and experience building talent/HR systems and teams from the ground up is preferred. The role requires flexibility in scheduling, as travel to different KIPP Capital Region schools is necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a multi-year vision for Talent and HR across the full employee life cycle, ensuring effective execution with an emphasis on customer service and strong systems.
  • Work with schools to prioritize designing and executing a talent strategy that ensures schools have the talent they need to deliver instructional excellence for students.
  • Provide vision and support for the scaling, integration, and refinement of data-driven Talent and HR systems and policies.
  • Ensure strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving orientation between Talent, HR, and school-based teams.
  • Provide vision and support for new talent acquisition, pathway/pipeline programs, creative staffing models, and retention strategies.
  • Partner with the Managing Director of Equity and Schools' teams on the development and implementation of aligned performance management systems.
  • Address employee concerns as needed, and resolve issues and liaise with legal counsel as necessary.
  • Ensure KIPP Capital Region complies with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including teacher credentialing.
  • Set and hold a vision of people excellence for the organization.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and other members of the senior leadership team to refine and implement KIPP Capital Region's strategic plan.
  • Translate strategy into a clear and shared vision and actionable plans for excellent people strategy and management.
  • Partner with the operations and finance team to ensure people strategy is financially viable over the long term.
  • Regularly review team structure to ensure resources are optimized to drive organizational strategy.
  • Manage the multilayered HR and Talent teams, ensuring coaching, development, and adherence to the full performance management cycle for all team members.
  • Ensure that the HR and Talent teams achieve outstanding results through strong planning, implementation of data-driven systems and processes, and exceptional communication and customer service to schools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited education institution; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • At least 10 years of related professional experience.
  • At least 5 years in a leadership role including managing multilayered teams; managing a talent/HR team preferred, and within a K-12, non-profit, and/or mission-driven work environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing racial equity and belief in our vision for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Successful navigation of complex talent/HR issues.
  • Experience building talent/HR systems and teams from the ground up is preferred.
