About the position

SUNY Brockport is seeking applicants for anticipated openings for part-time adjunct faculty in the Department of Journalism, Broadcasting and Public Relations. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in video, journalism, media writing, and/or theory-based subjects. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about media and communication and who can contribute to the academic growth of students in a dynamic learning environment. The adjunct lecturer will engage students through innovative teaching methods and will be expected to foster an inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages participation and critical thinking. The role requires a commitment to the university's mission of inspiring excellence through growth, engagement, and transformation. As part of the faculty, the adjunct lecturer will collaborate with other educators to develop course materials and assessments that align with the department's curriculum. The position also involves maintaining office hours to provide additional support to students, participating in departmental meetings, and contributing to the overall academic community at SUNY Brockport. This is a temporary part-time position, and the work schedule will be variable based on course offerings and student needs.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Master's degree in media/communication or related field by time of appointment from an accredited college or university, or substantial professional experience in a media field.
  • Substantial teaching experience is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctorate or MFA in media/communication or related field by time of appointment from an accredited college or university.
  • More than 10 years of professional experience in a media field.

Benefits

  • Salary of $4000 for a 3 credit course.
  • May be benefits eligible.
