About the position
The Autism Teacher at Mitchell Elementary School is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with autism. This role focuses on creating an inclusive learning environment that meets the unique needs of each student, fostering their academic and social development. The teacher will collaborate with other educators and staff to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and promote positive behavior and communication skills among students.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with autism.
- Provide specialized instruction tailored to the needs of students with autism.
- Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to create an inclusive classroom environment.
- Monitor and assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs.
- Participate in professional development and training related to autism education.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
- Valid teaching license in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with autism or special needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
- Experience with behavior management techniques.
- Knowledge of assistive technology for students with disabilities.
