About the position

The Licking Heights School District is seeking a dedicated and responsible Custodian for the 2024-2025 school year at Everest Elementary in Blacklick, Ohio. This full-time position requires the custodian to work from 3:30 PM to 12:00 midnight, ensuring that the school facilities are maintained in a clean and operational state. The custodian will play a crucial role in providing an attractive and comfortable educational environment for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED, have basic computer skills, and ideally have one to two years of related experience. The role involves a variety of custodial duties, including maintaining cleanliness in and around the school, performing regular cleaning tasks, and assisting with the upkeep of facilities during curricular and extracurricular events. The custodian will be responsible for maintaining immediate areas around the assigned building, washing windows, emptying trash receptacles, and ensuring that all surfaces, especially in restrooms, are thoroughly cleaned. The position also requires the ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds, as well as the use of common hand tools. The custodian will need to demonstrate a basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and painting tasks, and will be expected to report any major repair needs to the supervisor. This position emphasizes the importance of ethical principles and democratic values, as the custodian will also interact with students and the public, fostering a positive environment within the school community.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain immediate areas around the assigned building exterior doors up to curb to keep them clear of snow, ice and debris, due to the fire code.
  • Wash interior and exterior windows and remove graffiti as necessary.
  • Perform regular custodial duties in the buildings.
  • Empty trash receptacles inside and outside doorways daily and keep them clean as needed. Remove trash from the buildings daily.
  • Assist visiting members of the public who are utilizing the facilities.
  • Check schedule daily to provide necessary assistance to support curricular and extra-curricular events.
  • Thoroughly clean all surfaces in restrooms.
  • Maintain custodial closets in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Keep inventory of all supplies.
  • Perform general cleanup - any and all incidents as they arise.
  • Prepare work orders using the web-based work order system of the district.
  • Occasionally work from elevated surfaces while conducting overhead cleaning.
  • Keep all necessary items such as but not limited to windows, air locks, chalk/eraser boards, lockers, furniture, and display cases clean at all times.
  • Check daily to ensure all doors and windows are locked/unlocked as needed.
  • Report any major repair need or other deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or principal.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to two years related experience preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and painting.
  • Ability to use most common hand tools.
  • Required to lift, carry, push and pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds, in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
  • Willingness to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
