About the position

The Elementary Clerk at Oklahoma City Public Schools is responsible for performing clerical work related to the administration of the school. This role involves a variety of tasks including filing, recording, and retrieving information, as well as providing support to the school administration and interacting with students, parents, and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical support to the school administration.
  • Issue admittance slips to students who are late for class.
  • Take calls from parents regarding student absences.
  • Take telephone messages for teachers and students.
  • Greet parents and visitors in the school office.
  • Prepare and type daily absentee bulletins, suspension lists, and unexcused absence lists.
  • Check students in and out of school for absences during the school day.
  • Prepare office call slips and send them to classrooms for students needed in the office.
  • Type out the DO NOT ADMIT list at the end of the day and provide it to teachers.
  • Contact parents of students with unexcused absences.
  • Operate the switchboard or communication system as needed.
  • File student class schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associates degree or higher, or completed at least two years (48 credit hours) of study at an institution of higher education.
  • Passed the OGET or the ETS Parapro Assessment (with a score of 455 or better) or the WorkKeys Assessment (with a score of 4 or better on all three parts).
  • Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications to produce various formats, such as correspondence and reports.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and school personnel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, email, and database software (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Accuracy, discretion, tact, courtesy, good judgment, and reliability.
