About the position
The High School Long Term Substitute Teacher for Physics at Boston Prep is responsible for providing instructional support and maintaining a positive learning environment for students in grades 9-12. This role involves covering for daily teacher absences, engaging with students and families, and contributing to the overall school culture. The position emphasizes the importance of inclusion, ethical growth, and high expectations for all students, aligning with Boston Prep's mission to prepare students for success in college and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Support the Assistant Principal and Principal as needed
- Be present in the building from 7:15am to 4:15pm daily
- Provide coverage for daily absences of teachers
- Attend and support classes when not covering a teacher's absence
- Assume responsibilities and provide meaningful instruction for assigned classes
- Create a classroom environment that fosters engagement and curiosity
- Assume daily tutoring responsibilities
- Cover daily duties as needed
- Communicate weekly with students, families, and school administrators regarding academic and behavioral concerns
- Attend occasional after-school events
- Frequently communicate the school's mission to students and families
- Adhere to school academic and SEL protocols
- Utilize collaborative problem solving with students
- Model empathy and support students' needs
- Actively engage in personal learning and seek feedback
- Pursue professional development opportunities
- Collaborate with team members to advance the school's mission
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Entry-level teaching experience
- Commitment to creating a culture of inclusion and belonging
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and staff
- Willingness to engage in professional development
