About the position

The Center for Internet Augmented Research and Assessment (CIARA) at Florida International University is seeking undergraduate or graduate students in computer science and/or engineering to join their team as IT Project Network Associates. This position is part of a National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsored initiative, providing students with a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge networking technologies and network automation development concepts. The role is designed to enhance students' understanding of the IT field, particularly in network automation, DevOps, and scalability, while also contributing to projects that support research institutions. As an IT Project Network Associate, students will gain hands-on experience in troubleshooting network infrastructure, working with various network protocols such as OSPF and BGP, and utilizing Linux operating systems and shell scripting. This position not only allows students to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting but also fosters essential skills in communication and teamwork. The work schedule is flexible, tailored to accommodate students' academic commitments, with a typical workweek of 20 hours spread across Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Responsibilities

  • Assist in network automation development projects.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of network protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP).
  • Experience with troubleshooting network infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems and shell scripting.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Completion of FIU Service Excellence training or willingness to complete within the first 30 days.
