About the position

The Middle School Building Substitute & Ops Associate at Boston Prep plays a crucial role in supporting the educational environment by providing instructional support, covering for absent teachers, and fostering a positive school culture. This position is integral to ensuring that students receive meaningful instruction and support throughout the school day, while also engaging with families and contributing to the overall mission of the school.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Assistant Principal and Principal as needed.
  • Be present in the building all day, every day from 7:15am-4:15pm.
  • Provide coverage for daily absences of teachers.
  • Attend and support classes when not covering a teacher's absence.
  • Assume responsibilities and provide meaningful instruction for assigned classes in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
  • Create a classroom environment structured around scholarship where students are authentically engaged and curious.
  • Assume daily tutoring responsibilities.
  • Cover daily duties as needed.
  • Communicate weekly with students, families, and school administrators around academic and behavioral concerns.
  • Attend occasional after-school events.
  • Frequently communicate the school's mission to children and families.
  • Adhere to school academic and SEL protocols, including Circle practice.
  • Utilize collaborative problem solving with students and embody the mindset that 'Kids do well if they can, not if they want to.'
  • Model empathy and assume extracurricular responsibilities if desired.
  • Actively engage in one's learning; seek and act on feedback regularly.
  • Actively pursue professional development, inside and outside of the school.
  • Collaborate with other team members to advance the school's mission.

Requirements

  • Experience in teaching or educational support roles.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with students, families, and staff.
  • Ability to create an inclusive and engaging classroom environment.
  • Commitment to professional development and feedback.
  • Understanding of social-emotional learning (SEL) protocols.

Nice-to-haves
