About the position

The Paraprofessional - Special Education position at Oklahoma City Public Schools is designed to provide essential support to the instructional program within a classroom setting. This role focuses on assisting individual students or small groups, helping them achieve academic goals and reinforcing learning concepts. The paraprofessional will also perform clerical tasks to support teachers and maintain a safe and organized learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities and materials to support and reinforce classroom goals.
• Administers classroom assignments to assist teachers in the instructional process.
• Assists students with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts.
• Communicates with teachers to evaluate student progress and implement classroom objectives.
• Maintains classroom equipment and records to ensure a safe learning environment.
• Monitors students in various settings to provide a positive learning environment.
• Performs general clerical tasks to prepare instructional materials for teachers.
• Reports observations and incidents related to student behavior and safety.
• Prepares and maintains accurate records of student progress and activities.
• Assists with personal care needs of students, including feeding and hygiene.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completed at least 48 credit hours of college study, passed the OGET test, or passed the Parapro Assessment Test with a score of 455 or better.
• Completion of OSDE special education paraprofessional training and CPR/First Aid certification.
• Knowledge of child development stages and learning styles.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment and basic computer software applications.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with diverse individuals.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working with special education students.
• Additional certifications in child development or education.
