About the position

The Pre-K Teacher at Oklahoma City Public Schools is responsible for creating a flexible and engaging learning environment for young children. This role focuses on fostering personal growth and effective learning through a variety of educational experiences in subjects such as language arts, mathematics, and social studies. The teacher will establish rapport with students, motivate them to develop essential skills, and maintain positive relationships with parents and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Create a flexible program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth.
  • Provide learning experiences in pre-reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, physical education, and music.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified by state law.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials suitable for diverse learning needs.
  • Translate lesson plans into effective learning experiences.
  • Utilize fair grading patterns based on identified criteria.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior for effective participation.
  • Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth and prepare progress reports.
  • Communicate with parents through various means and hold conferences to discuss progress.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other staff to address health and learning problems.
  • Create an effective learning environment through displays and interest centers.
  • Supervise students during out-of-classroom activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Elementary Education or Alternative Teaching Certification approved by the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.
