About the position

The Web Editor for the student-run website at Florida International University (FIU) plays a crucial role in shaping the online presence of the institution's media. This position is designed for students who are enrolled at FIU and have been awarded Federal Work Study (FWS) as part of their financial aid package. The Web Editor is responsible for setting the vision for FIUSM.com, ensuring that the website is functional and accessible to the FIU community. This includes collaborating closely with the general manager of WRGP and the editor-in-chief of The Beacon to guarantee that fresh content is uploaded daily. The Web Editor serves as the leader and face of the website, guiding the team in content creation and management. In this internship opportunity, the student will receive mentorship and guidance from a supervisor throughout the experience. Both the student and supervisor are required to review learning goals and objectives, participating in formal meetings at the midpoint and end of the semester to discuss progress and complete evaluations. By the conclusion of the internship, the student will have gained valuable practical experience, learned to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, and faced real-life challenges that enhance their professional development. This role is part of the Federal Work Study program, and students must maintain a minimum enrollment of six credit hours in a degree program or eligible certificate during the academic semesters. The work schedule will vary based on the student's class schedule and departmental needs, with an advertised salary of $13.00 per hour.
