About The Position
The Torrance Unified School District is seeking current student teachers to fill the role of Substitute Teacher for the 2024-2025 academic year. This position is designed specifically for those who are currently enrolled in a teacher preparation program and are looking to gain practical experience in a classroom setting while fulfilling their student teaching requirements. As a Substitute Teacher, you will be directly responsible to the school principal or their designee, and your primary role will be to provide planned instruction in each subject assigned to you. You will follow the course of study specified in state law and school district regulations, ensuring that you deliver learning experiences that encourage maximum growth for each student. In this role, you will select and utilize appropriate materials available in the district for the subjects you are teaching. You will also be responsible for evaluating pupils' academic and social growth, maintaining appropriate records, and communicating with parents and staff regarding each pupil's progress. Identifying pupil needs and consulting with other professional staff to help solve health, behavioral, and learning problems will be a key part of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will maintain basic student records as required and participate in faculty meetings to stay aligned with school objectives. To create a conducive learning environment, you will establish a standard of classroom control that allows effective learning to take place. Promoting a classroom atmosphere that encourages student responsibility and self-control is essential. You will also stimulate inquiry, self-expression, and individual growth among students. Beyond classroom instruction, you will share equally in the supervision of pupils during out-of-classroom activities and participate in community-school relations, contributing to the overall development of the school environment.
