About the position
The Substitute Teacher position is an exempt professional role that requires maintaining a positive learning environment and responding to the individual needs of students. The substitute teacher will implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular instructor, ensuring that district policies are observed during all activities. The role involves creating a safe classroom environment conducive to learning, supervising all children in the classroom at all times, and being familiar with emergency procedures such as fire drills and severe weather warnings. The substitute teacher is also responsible for taking attendance, following lesson plans, and maintaining confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Responsibilities
- Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.
- Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Instructor.
- Ensure that district policies are observed during all activities.
- Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times.
- Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm and tornado warning procedures.
- Review notes for the day, take attendance and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.
- Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances and exhibit good judgment.
- Report for duty 30 minutes early and remain on duty for the entire assignment.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
