About the position

The FUEL NKU Operations Coordinator position is a full-time AmeriCorps role that focuses on supporting the operations of the food pantry at Northern Kentucky University. This position is part of the Kentucky College Coach program, which is administered by Serve Kentucky and Kentucky Campus Compact. The service term for this role runs from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025, with the possibility of renewal for up to four terms. The Coordinator will work closely with the Program Coordinator and the FUEL team to ensure the smooth operation of the food pantry, which serves as a vital resource for students in need. The primary responsibilities of the Operations Coordinator include developing and implementing effective food safety practices, managing the distribution of food items, and overseeing the organization of in-kind donations. The Coordinator will also be responsible for leading composting and recycling initiatives, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, and managing volunteer efforts to maintain a clean and safe pantry environment. This role is crucial in promoting sustainability and community engagement within the university, as well as providing essential support to students. In addition to operational tasks, the Coordinator will be required to submit monthly activity reports and bi-weekly timesheets to measure the impact of their work. The position is ideal for individuals interested in careers in education, human services, and nonprofit organizations, particularly those who have a passion for working with college-aged students and promoting food security on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement systems to facilitate effective food safety practices (i.e., daily temperature log).
  • Develop and implement planning for effective storage and distribution of perishable items (i.e., fresh, refrigerated, and frozen goods).
  • Lead the organizing efforts for all backstock of food, drinks, and hygiene products.
  • Oversee the acceptance and organization of in-kind donations.
  • Lead the composting and recycling initiatives.
  • Supervise daily and weekly cleaning tasks for the pantry.
  • Manage responsibilities for volunteers and student team members given skill set.
  • Submit monthly activity reports and bi-weekly time sheets.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 17 years old and a U.S. Citizen, U.S. national, or legal permanent resident alien.
  • Must be able to pass a National Service Criminal History Check.
  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree (required) depending on host site.
  • Associates degree, OR 60 credits completed toward bachelor's degree OR, one year of college (including completion of College Algebra and English 101/102) AND experience as a tutor or mentor.
