About the position

The Instructional Assistant - SPED Personal Care position at Larkspur Elementary School is designed to provide support to the instructional program by working one-on-one with special needs students. The role involves following educational and behavioral plans, assisting with personal care, and documenting students' daily activities to ensure their success and safety in the learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher.
• Assists medically fragile, physically disabled, or developmentally delayed students with personal hygiene tasks.
• Communicates with teachers and health care professionals to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
• Documents students' daily activities for completing daily logs and hourly activities.
• Evaluates situations involving staff, students, and parents for resolution.
• Implements behavioral plans designed by the IEP team under the supervision of the assigned teacher.
• Maintains manual and electronic files and records for reference and compliance.
• Models appropriate social behavior and skills for students.
• Monitors students' daily schedules and behavior plans to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Provides instruction in various subjects and skills under the supervision of the assigned teacher.
• Remains with students at all times to ensure their safety and manage situations as needed.
• Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• Job-related experience is required.
• CPR and First Aid certification are required.
• CPI certification is required.
