About the position
The One-to-One Nurse position at ETHS involves providing specialized nursing care for a student with quadriplegia during school hours and transportation. The nurse will be responsible for administering medications, monitoring health, and ensuring the student's safety and well-being in a school environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide support and care for the student requiring nursing services as outlined in the student's individualized education plan (IEP).
- Administer medications, feedings, and respiratory treatments as prescribed by the healthcare team.
- Monitor and manage the student's health and safety during special transportation to and from school.
- Monitor for autonomic dysreflexia and food intake.
- Provide personalized care and support to the student with a G-Tube and Trach during school hours and transportation.
- Perform bowel care and intermittent catheterization.
- Monitor skin integrity and perform safe mobility transfers.
- Keep track of the student's health supplies and contact home when supplies are running low.
- Provide updates regarding the student's health, well-being, and academic progress to the Special Education Department leadership and the student's parents/guardians.
- Provide basic support for educational needs in the classroom.
Requirements
- Current unencumbered Illinois State RN or LPN license
- Current CPR BLS certification
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (pediatric preferred)
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations and provide prompt medical assistance as needed
- Sensitivity to the unique needs of students with medical complexities.
