About the position

The Paraprofessional II Special Education position at Poudre School District is responsible for providing instructional and physical support to students with significant support needs. This role assists both General Classroom and Special Education Teachers in ensuring that students can fully participate in class activities, while also addressing personal care and social skills development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the General Classroom or Special Education Teacher with implementing instruction and reinforcing learning skills in individual or small groups.
  • Adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs and monitor acceptable social and physical behavior.
  • Implement daily and long-range lessons and activities to meet Individual Education Plans (IEP), behavior plans, and health care plans.
  • Assist with specialized occupational therapy and physical therapy programs and activities.
  • Support students with personal care, social skills, and self-awareness, including assistance with transportation to and from bus stops, restrooms, and lunchrooms.
  • Provide personal health and hygiene assistance, including feeding and toileting.
  • Lift, transfer, or push students in wheelchairs as necessary.
  • Use alternative language techniques such as sign language or voice-activated computer systems as needed.
  • Assist the teacher in preparing materials, administering tests, grading, and maintaining student records.
  • Monitor students during classroom activities, breaks, lunch, and field trips.
  • Reinforce school-wide discipline procedures and assist with special projects as needed.
  • Attend in-services, meetings, training, IEP meetings, and parent conferences as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of related experience, preferably working with special needs students.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Completion of Special Education Paraprofessional Academy classes (5 in the first 2 years of hire) is required.
