About the position
The Special Education Autism Teacher at Paradise Valley High School is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with autism in a self-contained classroom setting. This role involves developing lesson plans, assessing student progress, collaborating with other educators and parents, and creating a safe and effective learning environment tailored to individual student needs. The teacher will also manage classroom behavior and participate in various meetings to enhance educational outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Administers subject specific assessments and tests to assess students' competencies.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress and methods for improvement.
- Assesses student progress towards objectives and provides feedback to stakeholders.
- Collaborates with instructional staff and community resources to improve student outcomes.
- Counsels students or refers them to appropriate personnel for support.
- Demonstrates pedagogical approaches that engage learners effectively.
- Differentiates classroom work to address individualized learning needs.
- Directs student teachers, instructional assistants, and volunteers in the classroom.
- Instructs students to improve their academic success through a defined course of study.
- Manages student behavior to provide a safe learning environment.
- Monitors students in various educational environments for safety and positivity.
- Participates in meetings to convey and gather necessary information.
- Participates on PLC team to review data and instructional practices.
- Prepares written materials to document student progress and meet requirements.
- Reports health and safety issues to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a job-related area.
- Arizona Teaching Certificate.
- Appropriately Certified in Core Content Area.
- SEI Endorsement Required.
- Job-related experience is desired.
