About the position

The SPED Autism Teacher at Wildfire Elementary School is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with autism and other special needs. This role involves developing individualized learning plans, collaborating with other educators and parents, and ensuring a safe and effective learning environment. The teacher will assess student progress, manage classroom behavior, and adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students. The position requires a commitment to fostering academic and personal growth in students with special needs.

Responsibilities

  • Administers developmental testing programs and assessments to evaluate student competency levels.
  • Provides first aid and assistance to medically fragile children as needed.
  • Communicates with parents and guardians regarding student progress and methods for improvement.
  • Assesses student progress towards academic and behavioral goals.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff and community resources to enhance student outcomes.
  • Counsels students to improve performance and address personal issues.
  • Utilizes engaging pedagogical approaches to meet individual student needs.
  • Differentiates classroom work to provide appropriate instructional materials.
  • Directs assistant teachers and volunteers to support classroom programs.
  • Instructs students in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills.
  • Maintains accurate records and files for student documentation.
  • Manages student behavior to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Monitors students in various educational settings to promote safety.
  • Orders supplies and equipment as needed for classroom activities.
  • Participates in meetings to convey and gather information related to student needs.
  • Prepares written materials to document student progress and compliance with requirements.
  • Reports health and safety issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds to emergency situations to ensure student safety.
  • Addresses inquiries from various stakeholders regarding student issues and progress.
  • Serves as case manager for special education students, managing IEPs and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a job-related area.
  • Arizona Teaching Certificate.
  • Appropriately Certified in Core Content Area.
  • SEI Endorsement Required.
  • CPR Certificate.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • CPI Certificate (or ability to obtain district-sponsored training).
  • Criminal Background Clearance.
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
