About the position

The Durango School District 9-R is seeking licensed substitute teachers for the 2024-2025 school year. This role involves working with students and staff across various locations and positions, providing essential support in the classroom. The position offers competitive daily pay rates based on the length of assignments, with opportunities for long-term placements.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction and support to students in the absence of the regular teacher.
• Manage classroom behavior and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Follow lesson plans and adapt as necessary to meet the needs of students.
• Communicate effectively with staff and students regarding classroom activities and expectations.
• Utilize electronic systems to accept and decline assignments, maintain schedules, and view teacher's notes.

Requirements

• Valid Colorado Department of Education teaching license or a 3- or 5-year Colorado substitute authorization.
• A 1-year Colorado substitute authorization with completion of at least one year of post-secondary education.
• Experience working with children, preferably in a classroom setting.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Basic language, math, and writing skills.
• Strong computer skills to navigate electronic systems independently.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a classroom setting preferred.
• Minimum of two professional or academic references.
