About the position

The Associate Propulsion Engineer position involves conducting analysis and providing technical assessments related to propulsion systems. The role requires expertise in mechanics of materials, particularly for orthotropic, hyperelastic, and viscoelastic materials, and includes responsibilities such as model formulation, peer review, and project planning. The engineer will interact with customers to define system requirements and present findings in both written and oral formats.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct analysis model formulation and FEA or CFD solution using Abaqus or Fluent.
  • Provide technical assessments of results and give design guidance with specialized knowledge of mechanics of materials for orthotropic, hyperelastic, and viscoelastic materials.
  • Report analysis results in written and oral formats.
  • Peer review other analysts' work products, including efforts at other corporate business locations.
  • Conduct trade studies and evaluate alternative designs.
  • Determine engineering tasks required for project planning and execution.
  • Analyze project requirements and develop detailed planning, conceptual designs, and risk analysis.
  • Interact with internal and external customers; assist the customer in defining system requirements and in the generation of specifications for products or subsystems.
  • Develop and present materials for project-related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time to suppliers, test facilities, and launch facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering for Propulsion Engineer 1.
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering for Propulsion Engineer 2.
  • Completion of degree (Bachelors, Masters, or PhD) from an accredited institution by December 2024.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite).

Nice-to-haves

  • Overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher.
  • Experience or coursework in CAD modeling and finite element analysis programs (Abaqus preferred).
  • Experience or coursework with MATLAB, VBA, Fortran, and/or Python.
  • Working knowledge of composite materials.
  • Working knowledge of steady state and transient dynamic analysis.
  • Working knowledge of viscoelastic and hyper-elastic material modeling.
  • Proficiency with Siemens NX script writing and workflow automation.
  • Previous experience in an aerospace manufacturing facility.
