About the position

The Sea Ranch Design Committee and Board of Directors are seeking a well-qualified California licensed Architect with education and experience in sustainable design and environmental planning to fill a vacant position on its six-member, all-professional design review committee serving The Sea Ranch Association. This homeowner organization represents a residential community of architectural and environmental planning distinction located on the Northern Sonoma Coast. Members of the Design Committee serve as consultants (independent contractors) who review and evaluate all significant proposed development, including architectural, planning, environmental, and landscape projects, ensuring quality and consistency with the development principles and design philosophy of The Sea Ranch. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of professional experience, solid credentials, and a strong ability to work collaboratively within a team. Effective communication skills are essential, as the role involves engaging with various stakeholders and presenting evaluations and recommendations. Experience serving on a deliberative review body is preferred, as it will enhance the candidate's ability to contribute meaningfully to the committee's discussions and decisions. The Sea Ranch Association compensates Design Committee members through a daily stipend and reimburses expenses incurred while providing services. Candidates must be available to meet at The Sea Ranch approximately 12 times per year for daylong meetings and field trips. The term for Design Committee appointments is three years, commencing immediately upon the selection of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate all significant proposed development projects including architectural, planning, environmental, and landscape projects.
  • Ensure quality and consistency with the development principles and design philosophy of The Sea Ranch.
  • Participate in daylong meetings and field trips approximately 12 times per year.
  • Collaborate with other committee members to provide insights and recommendations on design proposals.

Requirements

  • Valid California Architecture License.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in architecture.
  • Education and experience in sustainable design and environmental planning.
  • Solid credentials in architectural practice.
