About the position

The 2024 Fall Intern in Enterprise Architecture at Frontier Airlines is an exciting opportunity for students interested in systems design and architecture, product development, and software engineering. This internship will take place from September 9 to December 11, 2024, at the Denver Frontier Headquarters Office. The intern will primarily collaborate with the Architecture team and ecommerce engineering teams to conduct system analysis and design for Frontier's ecommerce systems. This role involves analyzing requirements, coding, and producing various architectural views, providing a comprehensive understanding of the software development lifecycle from inception to production. Throughout the internship, the intern will engage with product owners, architects, and engineering teams to document the current state of both legacy and new commercial systems. The intern will be responsible for building system capabilities, which includes transitioning from requirements gathering to design, development, testing, and ultimately productionizing the capability. This hands-on experience will allow the intern to learn various tools and frameworks, including cloud development, DevOps practices, and several engineering patterns. Additionally, the intern will receive mentorship from business analysts, architects, and lead engineers, ensuring a supportive learning environment. Upon completion of the internship, the intern will present their findings and contributions to the Architecture team and CIO's direct reports, providing an opportunity to showcase their work and gain valuable feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Architecture and ecommerce engineering teams to analyze and design ecommerce systems.
  • Document the current state of legacy and new commercial systems.
  • Build system capabilities from requirements to design, development, testing, and production.
  • Learn and apply various tools and frameworks, including cloud development and DevOps practices.
  • Receive mentorship from business analysts, architects, and lead engineers.
  • Present findings and contributions to the Architecture team and CIO's direct reports upon completion of the internship.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Information Technology or Computer Science.
  • Strong interest in systems design, architecture, and product development.
  • Proficiency in software engineering and full stack development skills, including ReactJS, JavaScript, SQL, Microservices, and API development.
  • Coding skills in C#, SQL, JSON/YAML, and Python.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Good technical skills, including knowledge of MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Visio, and UML modeling.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud development and DevOps tools.
  • Familiarity with software engineering methodologies and practices.
