About the position

The 2024 Naval Architect Winter Internship at Electric Boat offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the Naval Architecture Department. Interns will engage in hydrostatic and hydrodynamic analyses, support waterfront activities, and contribute to concept design efforts for submarines. This internship is designed for motivated engineering students pursuing a degree in Marine Design or Fluid Mechanics, providing a platform for professional development in a collaborative engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in determining hydrostatic and hydrodynamic characteristics of submarines.
  • Support concept design activities including design requirement trade-off assessments and early design optimization.
  • Conduct hydrodynamic analyses such as loading of flow-exposed structures and maneuvering analysis.
  • Perform hydrostatic calculations including tank volumes, ship displacement, and stability evaluations.
  • Provide waterfront support for blocking, docking, submarine launching, and transportation of hull sections.

Requirements

  • Current pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
  • Background in Marine Design or Fluid Mechanics is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and critical problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in marine vehicle design is strongly preferred.
