About the position

Outward, Inc. is seeking talented research interns to join our engineering team, focusing on delivering innovative visual experiences. The team is engaged in solving complex problems in imaging, computer vision, graphics, and machine learning. Interns will have the opportunity to work on various projects that leverage cutting-edge technology to enhance the customer shopping journey for our Williams-Sonoma, Inc. brands. Our mission is to redefine the shopping experience through advanced product visualizations, integrating 3D, AR/VR, and web technologies. We are also pioneering the use of generative AI to transform e-commerce, aiming to revolutionize how products are presented and interacted with, thereby enhancing consumer engagement. Interns will be involved in several key areas of interest, including applying advanced techniques in Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) for vision tasks such as segmentation and detection, working with generative algorithms like Stable Diffusion to enhance visual content creation, and supporting the integration of AI into production processes. Additionally, interns will contribute to developing AI solutions that improve quality control and enhance product visuals. This internship is designed for individuals who are currently enrolled in a graduate program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field, and who are on track to graduate with their Ph.D. or MSc degree between Fall/Winter 2024 and Spring/Summer 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced techniques in Deep Neural Networks for vision tasks such as segmentation and detection.
  • Work with generative models, including Stable Diffusion, to enhance visual content creation and realism.
  • Support the integration of AI into production processes and streamline workflows.
  • Contribute to developing AI solutions that improve quality control and enhance product visuals.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a similar field.
  • On track to graduate with a Ph.D. or MSc degree between Fall/Winter 2024 and Spring/Summer 2025.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5.
  • Experience with scientific libraries such as NumPy and scikit-learn.
  • Familiarity with image manipulation libraries like OpenCV.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
  • Skills in design and implementation of algorithms.
  • Strong software engineering skills in Python or C++.
  • Strong communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Skills in processing and cleaning data.
  • Experience with maintaining PostgreSQL databases and image content.
  • Working experience on cloud infrastructure.
