About the position

The Resource Specialist will, under supervision of the site administrator and with the cooperation of the Director of Special Education, perform a wide variety of specialized and responsible tasks including the implementation of the school curriculum based on the identified needs of students.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of specialized tasks; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate.
  • Provide direct service to pupils in all areas of curriculum instruction.
  • Provide leadership and participation on the IEP team.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the special needs of pupils.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluate pupil academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, prepare progress and grade reports, communicate with parents on the individual pupil's progress.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  • Create a functional and attractive environment for learning through displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Perform basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
  • Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Administer tests in accordance with district testing programs.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals.
  • Participate with other professional staff members in special programs for students.
  • Match teaching styles of teachers and learning styles of students for maximum benefit to students.
  • Maintain records on identified students as required.
  • Provide consultant services, resource information and materials regarding students with special needs to other staff members and parents.

Requirements

  • Basic California teaching credential(s) that authorizes participation as a Resource Specialist.
  • Bachelor's degree, including all courses needed to meet all credentialing requirements.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience.
  • Better than average recommendations from professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher.
  • Ability to maintain and verify accuracy and completeness of records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Ability to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Ability to plan and organize work.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret test scores for purposes of modifying instruction.
  • Ability to make appropriate recommendations to teachers regarding instructional programs for identified students.
  • Ability to teach under conditions which necessitate small group and individualized instruction in collaborative settings.
